MicroSec

Since 1979 MicroSec has worked within a multitude of industry sectors gaining the broad range of experience now benefiting our customers. In the early years a significant percentage of work came from the defence industries mainly maritime and aerospace. However, since the 1990's defence contracts declined and MicroSec found itself increasingly involved in more commercial projects, primarily within the banking sector and more recently in local and central Government. Our applications range from one of the first micro-processor based Taxi Meters, to a suite of programs designed for avionics engineers analysing performance during test flights.
MicroSec's solutions are fully bespoke to requirement, boasting a vast list of diverse applications. We have expertise in many of the major software languages such as VB.Net, Visual Basic, Perl, C and Delphi. We are both a Microsoft house as well as one havinig many years of experience in UNIX and LINUX. Database languages and techniques have also become a mainstay of development, particularly relating to SQL Server, Access, Informix and FoxPro databases.

Why choose MicroSec?

Our reputation is second to none and over the years have built up a wide, loyal customer base, many of whom are blue chip companies with a reputation to maintain. We offer a friendly yet professional relationship to our customers, based on good communications between all parties, resulting in clear and mutual understanding.
MicroSec is committed to BS EN ISO 9001 and was one of the first software houses to achieve this registration; we are currently adhering to BS EN ISO 9001:2000. This, along with TickIT have helped us to significantly improve quality and productivity, we are continually striving to refine and automate our quality system.
The following case study demonstrates the depth and breadth of our commissioned work, please take a look...

Siemens IT Solutions

Their BRIEF - Siemens IT Solutions and Services Ltd won the contract to design, develop, and support the Land Register System for the Registers of Scotland. The system to be developed was required to manage all the complex relationships associated with hundreds of years of historical land records and manage applications from citizens for registration and transfer of title of land throughout all of Scotland.
OUR SOLUTION...Working in close partnership with Siemens, MicroSec provided lead design resource and key analysts for development of the Land Register system. The system has been designed as a client-server system, using Perl as the programming language and Informix as the database. Databases and server processes are run on Silicon Graphics servers, running Irix, while clients run on Windows and Sun Solaris. Latterly, Linux servers have been used in addition to Irix for increased cost-effective deployment options. The entire system, including the client-server protocols and load balancing algorithms, was developed within the project team. The system has continuously evolved and grown over a period of 10+ years. Throughout this project lifecycle, MicroSec have helped Siemens to identify and harness new technology to provide operational business improvements for the client. The system first went live in 1994, and currently supports multiple networked servers and over 1,200 concurrent PC and Sun workstation users. The system continues to support the core business operations for Land Registration throughout Scotland. MicroSec continue to provide daily operational support together with ongoing design and programming services for the progressive evolution of the system.
